Over the school year I try to collect as much data as possible. Data allows me to determine if the materials and teaching strategies I'm using are effective for our students. The majority of my data is collected through brief pre and post tests.
2016 Viking Visits Parent Feedback Results
End note on Viking Visits: Parent feedback on Viking Visits over the past three years has been very positive. My plan is to continue utilizing these visits in future years with the overall goal of enhancing more student awareness of the usefulness of these conferences.
Motivational Speaker- March 2015
On March 20, 2015, the Middle School Peer Leaders recently brought speaker, Mike McGowan, to Gibraltar to speak to 5th-8th graders about inclusion and respect. Post speaker surveys were given to all students and teachers who attended. Data and comments collected from the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders can be found below:
Fourth Grade Data for Emotion Management Unit-Spring 2015
All fourth grade students received instruction regarding Managing Strong Emotions. Each student took a pre and post test before and after the unit with a brief quiz in the middle of the unit. The summary of these results are:
Before the Emotion Management Unit:
0% of students knew the definition or function of the two parts of the brain called the Amygdala and the Cortex
0% of student could give at least 2 positive, healthy ways to calm down strong emotions
0% of students knew what anxiety is
0.04% of student could give one sign of anger in the body.
After the Emotion Management Unit:
89% of students could define the Amygdala and the Cortex
98% of students could identify at least 2 signs of anger in the body
98% of students could identify at least 2 positive, healthy ways to calm down strong emotions
78% of students accurately defined anxiety
-The curriculum used for this unit is called Second Step.
